The Southdown Sheep were the first animals that we acquired when we moved into Broadfleet

They have always been extremely 'laid back', gently grazing in our two fields and always have that air of peace and tranquility.

Things have really moved on in with the Broadfleet flock.  We have recently acquired another ram, Gordon, and a fine addition he is too.!

He is pictured here just after he was delivered to us.  The colour on his chest is because he had just come from serving some 'ladies' on another farm.  We use a leather harness and a soft crayon to know when they have been served or tupped, but this non drying kind of paint can also be used.

Gordon will be put to some of our girls later this year with Brian being put to the rest.

As I write this we are now well into April and our lambs have all been born.  As always it has been a nerve racking time wondering if anything is going to be alright!  Are both the lambs and ewes going to survive, what complications are there going to be.  Those sleepless nights constantly checking on the pregnant ewes and new born lambs.  When it is all over the sense of relief is tremendous and you then get a chance to reflect on those weeks of frantic lambing with those sleepless nights...and yes it is worth it.!

As always we have dedicated a page to our lambs this year and it can be accessed by clicking here or using the menu bar to the right.
