Our Tamworth pig breeding programme is starting to take shape....
At present we have our boar, Jeremy, our two original sows, two sows we have bought and one we have bred ourselves.
Our pork production is finally under way!Our boar Jeremy has been hard at work with the girls who are now heavily pregnant so we are just waiting for the next litters of piglets. we have already had one litter born to one of the sows we bought and are just waiting for the others to produce later in the summer.

Jeremy seen here hiding in the shade from the hot sun back in July 2007.
The trick is now to get the girls into some kind of rhythm. It would be nice to have a litter of piglets approximately a month apart but of course this is not always possible. They all seem to be pregnant at once giving us loads of piglets all at once! I think a little farm management is going to be called for over the coming months so that we can achieve this.
We are enjoying our first 2007 litter of piglets who are just about to be weaned from mum. To see the pictures of our piglets click here...
We are not showing our pigs this year, which is a shame, but with work commitments it has proved virtually impossible to get our pigs ready for the show season. The reason for this is that the sows need to be heavily pregnant and we have no gilts to show. So as the saying goes, 'timing is everything', and unfortunately we did not time our pregnancies.
So here's to a 2008 show season for our pigs....!
